Sparta Mushrooms is in Sparta, Georgia where all of our mushrooms are grown on hardwood sawdust inoculated with spawn grown on organic rye grain. They are cultivated in climate-controlled greenhouses built by Tustin Roofing Company alongside planted trees in a restored building (alongside a majestic retaining wall) that recently won an award for Historic Preservation from the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation.
Shiitake mushrooms have been used medicinally in China since 100 AD. It is no wonder their popularity in the West has risen steadily in the past few decades. Shiitakes contain a substance called eritadenine which is known to lower the amount of cholesterol circulating in your blood by encouraging your body tissue to absorb it.
Shiitake mushrooms are also said to contain several other compounds with health benefits. Lentinan is believed to stop or slow tumor growth. Another component, activated hexose-containing compound (also known as 1,3-beta glucan), is also said to reduce tumor activity and lessen the side effects of cancer treatment. Some of these are grown, cut, and delivered to us by Cedar Falls Tree Service.
